Sixth Form Open Evening at St Joseph’s Catholic Academy in Hebburn

Nov 13, 2023

St Joseph’s Catholic Academy is hosting its annual Sixth Form open evening on Thursday, 16th November, from 5.30pm to 7.30pm, for students in Year 11.

The sixth form, which is part of Bishop Chadwick Catholic Education Trust, provides a wide curriculum offer of 26 subjects. As well as offering A Levels and BTECs, they also offer a hair and beauty VTCT Level 3 course in their own salon at school.

In August, St Joseph’s celebrated achieving almost a quarter of all A Level grades at A or A* or their equivalent.

Head of sixth form and assistant headteacher, Carly Curry, said: “At St Joseph’s Sixth Form, students are fully supported in all aspects of sixth form life. Not only do we provide subject expert teachers to secure the grades pupils need to go to their next stage in life, we also provide an excellent level of pastoral care and go the extra mile to provide both extra and super curricular opportunities. We are very proud of our Sixth Form and our students.”

In its Ofsted report last year, inspectors said: “The sixth form prepares students well for future success. Students progress to meaningful education, employment and training destinations.

“The personal development offer in the sixth form helps students prepare for adulthood. For example, the school’s catering staff deliver lessons to students on how to cook meals on a budget. Leaders put in place bespoke packages of support for students with SEND. This means that they are well prepared for independent living when they leave school.

“Sixth form students studying vocational qualifications particularly benefit from the expertise of staff.”
