An extraordinary piece of local history has been uncovered at a County Durham primary school, during construction of its new nursery building. While carrying out groundworks, builders revealed a hidden WW2 air raid shelter, preserved beneath the foundations for more than 80 years.

A bold and visionary new folk opera, No More Sleeping, is set to premiere in September 2026, offering audiences an unforgettable journey through history, imagination, and innovation. The project was officially launched on Monday 8th June with the help of Durham University’s humanoid robot Alan.
