On 2nd July the government unveiled their detailed plans for all children and young people to return to full-time education from September. The key points are:
• All pupils, in all year groups, are expected to return to school full-time from the beginning of the autumn term.
• A system of controls must be implemented to reduce the risk of transmission. These build on the protective measures which you will have heard about already, such as ‘bubbles’ of groups in school.
• Engaging with the Test and Trace process.
Senior leaders across the Trust are digesting this guidance and are working on the systems and processes necessary to enable the safe re-opening of our schools to all pupils from the start of term in September.
We will provide further information on what this means for our pupils as soon as we are able to.
FOUR SCHOOLS JOIN TO DOUBLE SIZE OF OUR TRUST (1 June 2020)
We are pleased to confirm that four local catholic schools have formally joined the expanding Bishop Chadwick Catholic Education Trust.
From today, 1 June, Our Lady of Mercy Trust (comprising St Aidan’s Catholic Academy and St Anthony’s Girls’ Catholic Academy, in Sunderland) along with St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, in Wingate, and St Godric’s Catholic Primary School, in Wheatley Hill officially merge into the trust.
This takes the total number of schools in BCCET to eight with St Wilfrid’s RC College, St Joseph’s Catholic Academy, St Mary’s Catholic Primary in Jarrow and Our Lady of the Rosary already part of the trust.
This merger of the two successful trusts and the addition of the two primaries enhances the quality of catholic education in the diocese and the strengths brought by the shared expertise will enable significant impact in improving all aspects of education.
St Mary’s and St Godric’s both feed into St Bede’s Catholic Comprehensive and Byron Sixth Form College in Peterlee, a school we have worked very closely with for many years and one which we hope to bring into the trust later this year. We also bring another teaching school into the trust alongside Northern Saints Teaching School Alliance. St Anthony’s is a well-established teaching school and home to the Beacon Teaching Alliance.
“These schools are all a very welcome addition to our family. By working together in the one trust, the children and young people in our schools will have the very best educational opportunities and life fulfilling experiences within communities which have Christ at the centre.”
