Our Buildings

Our central Estates Team supports site staff across our schools to maintain safe, high-quality environments that are fit for purpose. It is vital that our school buildings are properly maintained and comply with statutory and mandatory duties relating to health and safety. We have an ongoing programme of capital works to maintain and upgrade our school buildings, supported by a number of specialist contractors.

School Rebuilding Programme

We successfully secured funding through the Department for Education’s School Rebuilding Programme for the rebuilding of a number of schools across our Trust.

Work is progressing at St. Aidan’s Catholic Academy and St. Patrick’s Catholic Primary School, both in Sunderland.

St. Aidan’s Catholic Academy

In September 2025, we held the formal ground-breaking ceremony for the £42m redevelopment of St. Aidan’s Catholic Academy. We are working with the Department for Education and its contractor, Bowmer and Kirkland Limited, with work progressing well.

St. Patrick’s Catholic Primary School

In November 2025, plans were officially submitted for a brand-new school for St. Patrick’s. The development aims to create a welcoming, future-focused environment that continues the school’s 130-year tradition at the heart of the Ryhope community. The new school is planned to open in Summer 2027.
