The Jubilee Year 2025 - Pilgrims of Hope
Pilgrims of Hope

Jubilee Year 2025

Pope Francis proclaimed 2025 as a Jubilee Year under the theme “Pilgrims of Hope”.

The Jubilee invited Catholics across the world to renew their hope at a time when communities continued to face the impacts of war, the lasting effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the climate crisis.

Across Bishop Chadwick Catholic Education Trust, the Jubilee provided an opportunity for our schools and communities to reflect on what it means to be people of hope and to put our faith into action.

“All it takes is one good person to restore hope.”

Laudato Si’ 71

A Holy Year

Within the Catholic Church, Jubilees — sometimes known as Holy Years — are special years of forgiveness, reconciliation and mercy. A Jubilee is a special year of grace centred on pilgrimage and prayer, as well as celebration and reconciliation.

Jubilee years traditionally begin shortly before Christmas and conclude around the Epiphany of the following year. Pope Francis opened the Holy Door at St Peter’s Basilica in Rome on Christmas Eve 2024 before presiding over the Mass of the Nativity of the Lord.

In Spes Non Confundit (“Hope Does Not Disappoint”), the Papal Bull proclaiming the Jubilee Year, Pope Francis reflected on the significance of Christian hope and the invitation for the faithful to become tangible signs of hope for others.

The Holy Door

In Catholic tradition, the Holy Door is a powerful symbol of the passage to salvation and the path to new and eternal life opened to humanity through Jesus Christ.
