Bishop Chadwick open evenings to take place for year six primary school pupils

Sep 12, 2024

An open evening is taking place at a Peterlee Secondary School where students celebrated GCSE success – despite the impact of RAAC.

Students at St Bede’s Catholic School and Byron Sixth Form College, which is part of Bishop Chadwick Catholic Education Trust, faced a challenging year of relocation in the last academic year, travelling 17 miles each day to attend lessons.

All pupils are now back on the school site – and the school is looking forward to welcoming prospective students who are currently in year six at primary school.

The open evening will take place at the college on Westway on Tuesday 24 September, between 5.30pm and 8pm.

Following the school’s GCSE success last month, headteacher Frances Cessford said it was inspiring to see such strong performances from its “resilient” students. More information about the school is available at www.st-bedes.org.

St Anthony’s Catholic Academy, based at Thornhill Terrace, Sunderland, is also hosting its open evening on Tuesday 24 September, between 6pm and 8pm, with more details to be found at www.st-anthonys-academy.com.

This school also celebrated a large number of successes on GCSE results day with new headteacher Marie Lanaghan praising the results at the girls’ school as “absolutely fantastic”.

Meanwhile, other schools at Bishop Chadwick Catholic Education Trust are also holding open evenings for year six primary school pupils.

St Aidan’s Catholic Academy, on Willowbrook Road in Ashbrooke, Sunderland, will be the first school within the Trust to hold its open evening on Tuesday 17 September, between 6pm and 8pm.

GCSE successes at the boys’ school were praised by incoming headteacher Ann-Marie Whitten, who said she was “really proud” of her pupils. More information can be found at www.staidanscatholicacademy.co.uk.

St Joseph’s Catholic Academy in Hebburn will hold its year 6 open evening on Thursday 26 September, between 6pm and 8pm. New Headteacher James Crowe said, “I am looking forward to inviting prospective future students and parents into St Joseph’s to share an experience of our special learning community.
